The Greatest Fear
By: Dennis Spielman

A personalized version of my poem, My Greatest Fear, that I wrote for a friend whose mother had died. It's to let the person know that everything will work out. When I die (hey, I'm not immortal or I am pretty sure that I am not), I would love to have this read at my funeral.

People walk along the deserted city sidewalks, but you shall not.
Black cats skips across every path, but that's life.
The path you have never traveled alone, it shall forever be that way.
While you continue down your path, the towering skyscrapers look down at you.
You are not meaningless dots.
The street musician's tune may fade, but the songs in your heart shall not.
When a fountain sprinkles out its last ounce of life, it shall not be the end.
When a street lamp flickers its last juice, the light will still grow.
We may walk alone for a time, but never forever.
There will always be someone with you.
You shall never encounter the greatest fear - total loneliness.
At times it may feel like it, but look around.
You are not alone.

The End
