Monday vs. Friday
By: Dennis Spielman
Which is really better, Monday or Friday? This is an opinion column that wrote for my high school newspaper, an 2001 issue of the Blueline.

Two mornings a week, people line up and buy tickets to see the big fight. They all set around the tournament ring to watch the game. Some of them watch the game because they've placed a bet. Others watch the game because they have to. It's the big battle between Monday and Friday. Sure, most people bet on Friday since they like it better. I would set there and watch the game, wondering who would win. The fight would affect everyone's life by making him or her either happy or depressed. I not sure if I care or not who wins. It's just the game life likes to play in your head.

The game gets over before a person wakes up. Sometimes we'll get that strange feeling that it is Monday when it really is Friday, or the other way around. It's really odd, and not in a groovy way either. I don't know why we get it sometimes. Even if a bunch of Friday things, like parties and easy work, happened it still would feel like a Monday. I'm sure everyone has gotten this feeling before. It's a disease that keeps on spreading throughout the world.

I don't know what is the cure for it. I guess there is no cure. It just happens like chickenpox. I do know, however, where it comes from. It's rather simple if you sit down and think about it. On both days we look forward to the weekend, we don't feel like getting up early (I usually feel like that everyday), everyone is pretty much laid back at school and work, and we just want to do something different. The only real difference between the two is, well, five days.

Nobody can truly predict whose going to the fight. The outcome is different for each person. The winner is determined before a person wakes up while the looser is usually that person. The mind is always in conflict, fighting to decided what day it is and what to do and how to do it and all this other stuff.

I'm starting to believe that Wednesday always wins the fight.
